The Smallest Teacher

4 months have passed, and it’s still not over.

Over the past 4 months, innocent people died, schools suspended, numerous public facilities closed, economy stopped, people forced to stay at their homes…… all because of a living organism that we could not even see — COVID-19.

Actually, who would have thought that a virus could make the whole world go into recession, and it’s a recession that the world has never experienced before, worse than the recession caused by SARS in 2003? It’s so serious that even President Trump had to declare a national emergency in the United States just because of this virus. Who cares if you have a lot of money? You still need to stay at home during this pandemic. It doesn’t matter how powerful or how high your social status is, even Queen Elizabeth could not prevent the virus from spreading in the UK. What does this tell? In my opinion, it shows how weak we actually are. When we think we can control the world’s economy, or even nature itself, think again. We cannot even control a living organism that is smaller than a grain of dust from spreading. When we think we are the most powerful in the universe, think— how small are we in this vast universe when we don’t even have the ability to control the things happening around us.

It’s time to change. When we want to boast about something, remember that things as small as a virus could change your life forever. When we are acting arrogant, just remember the situation you are in right now— all because of a “mere” virus. Can you still be so arrogant? So, act nice to other people and be humble at all times—there’s always something or someone more powerful than you, even if you don’t see them.
